We are seeking a compassionate and experienced School Nurse to join our team in providing specialized care for a medically fragile elementary student near Tilton, New Hampshire. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working with children who have tracheostomies and feeding tubes, as well as a deep understanding of the unique challenges and responsibilities involved in caring for medically complex students in a school setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide skilled nursing care and support to a medically fragile elementary student with a tracheostomy and feeding tube during school hours.
  • Monitor the student's vital signs, respiratory status, and overall health throughout the school day.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and interventions as prescribed by the student's healthcare provider.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including documentation of assessments, interventions, and communication with healthcare team members and parents/guardians.
  • Collaborate with teachers, staff, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans that meet the student's medical, developmental, and educational needs.
  • Educate school personnel about the student's medical condition and emergency procedures, including proper care and maintenance of tracheostomy and feeding tube equipment.
  • Remain vigilant for signs of respiratory distress, aspiration, or other medical emergencies, and respond promptly and effectively to ensure the student's safety and well-being.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive school environment that promotes the student's participation and integration with peers and educational activities.

Requirements:

  • Current RN license in the state of New Hampshire.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a nurse, preferably with pediatric or school nursing experience.
  • Experience working with children who have tracheostomies and feeding tubes, including proficiency in tracheostomy care, suctioning, and feeding tube management.
  • Strong assessment and critical thinking skills, with the ability to recognize and respond quickly to changes in a student's condition.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse team of professionals, parents/guardians, and community partners.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
