Job Title: Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey Duration: 6 weeks Shift: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM or 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM Unit: Main Operating Room (OR)

Job Description: We are currently seeking an experienced Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) to join our surgical team in New Brunswick, NJ, for a 6-week contract. The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of RNFA experience and hold current BLS, ACLS, and FA (First Assistant) credentials. This position does not require on-call availability.

Responsibilities:

  1. Work closely with the surgical team to provide exceptional care during surgical procedures, with a strong focus on cardiac cases.
  2. Apply absorbent immobilizing dressings, hemostatic clips, and tourniquets.
  3. Assist with auto transfusion, volume replacement, and secure drainage systems to tissue.
  4. Clamp and cauterize vessels or tissues as necessary.
  5. Perform cutting and digital manipulation of tissue, including direct digital pressure.
  6. Dissect the common femoral artery and bifurcate as required.
  7. Utilize electrocautery, both bipolar and monopolar, effectively.
  8. Harvest saphenous veins, including skin incisions, as part of cardiac procedures.
  9. Insert and remove drainage tubes and manage F/C (Foley catheter) as needed.
  10. Manipulate surgical materials such as loops, tags, pack sponges, and pad pressure points.
  11. Suture all wound layers, including muscle and fascia.
  12. Assist with thermoregulation and tie and ligate clamped vessels/tissue.
  13. Proficiency in using body stabilizers, fracture tables, c-arm extensions, and head stabilizers.
  14. Apply wound dressings, either liquid or spray occlusive.
  15. Administer medications and perform IV and phlebotomy as required.
  16. Possess strong circulating skills and expertise in draping and positioning patients.
  17. Use the EPIC charting system to document patient information accurately.
  18. Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure patient safety and quality care.

Requirements:

  • Active RN license in the state of New Jersey.
  • Minimum of 1 year of RNFA experience, with a strong background in cardiac cases.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and FA (First Assistant) credentials.
  • Proficiency or expertise in the listed areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to work the specified shift hours.
  • First-time travelers are accepted and encouraged to apply.
  • Scrubs will be provided by the hospital.
