Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Life skills Classroom

Position Type: Full-Time, Contract

Overview: We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team in the Lifeskills classroom within a high school setting. This role involves providing healthcare support to students with varying disabilities, working closely with a small group of students in a classroom environment. The LPN will primarily work in a 1:1 capacity, ensuring the health and well-being of each student throughout the school day.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide medical care and support to students with disabilities, including but not limited to administering medication, monitoring vital signs, and managing specialized equipment such as trachs, feeding tubes, and hoyer lifts.
  • Collaborate with the classroom teacher, paraprofessionals, and other healthcare professionals to create and implement individualized healthcare plans for each student.
  • Assist with activities of daily living, mobility, and transportation as needed, ensuring student safety and comfort.
  • Monitor and respond to any medical emergencies or incidents within the classroom setting, following established protocols and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, documenting all care provided and communicating effectively with healthcare team members and parents/guardians.
  • Participate in team meetings, staff trainings, and professional development activities as required.
  • Support the integration of students into community outings and activities, ensuring their healthcare needs are met in various environments.

Qualifications:

  • Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the state of Massachusetts.
  • Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities, preferably in an educational or healthcare setting.
  • Strong clinical skills, including proficiency in medication administration, trach care, and use of medical equipment such as hoyer lifts.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment, demonstrating flexibility, empathy, and professionalism.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with students, families, staff, and healthcare providers.
  • Knowledge of relevant state regulations and guidelines pertaining to healthcare in educational settings.
  • CPR certification and willingness to undergo additional training as needed.

  • This is a contract position with guaranteed hours and competitive pay.
  • The Lifeskills classroom operates on a full-time schedule during the school year, with additional summer sessions.
  • The position is located in close proximity to the Health Office, providing access to additional nursing support as needed.
