Tuberculosis Program Field Nurse - Public Health in Chicago, IL
Location: Downtown Chicago, IL
Job Type: Full-Time (52-Week Contract)
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Weekly Hours: 40 hours

As the local Tuberculosis (TB) authority, we are dedicated to providing exceptional care to TB patients, especially in communities facing healthcare disparities. Our team of nurses plays a vital role in ensuring the well-being of our patients through case management and patient education.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct field visits (up to 75% of the time) using assigned fleet vehicles or your own car if preferred, to meet patients at home, work, healthcare facilities, or other locations.
- Perform timely in-person patient assessments.
- Educate patients on TB and its treatment, offering guidance on medication adherence.
- Monitor medication dosages and ensure a sufficient supply of necessary medications.
- Administer directly observed therapy (DOT) for infants and young children.
- Provide video DOT (vDOT) for designated individuals undergoing TB treatment.
- Maintain regular contact with patients, assessing adherence and monitoring medication side effects, with in-person meetings whenever possible.
- Conduct TB skin tests (TSTs) and administer intramuscular injections of anti-TB medication for certain multi-drug resistant TB cases.
- Record clinical treatment and laboratory data in the case reporting database (INEDSS) and program records.
- Collaborate with community healthcare providers to coordinate patient care.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing accredited by the National League for Nursing OR an approved foreign credential evaluation supplemented by at least one year of public health nursing experience.
