Pay Rate: $29.00 Per Hour.
Position Summary
The Per Diem School LPN provides nursing support services on an as-needed basis to promote the health, safety, and well-being of students and staff. The LPN works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and/or school administration to provide direct care, assist with chronic health needs, respond to minor injuries and illnesses, administer medications, and support a safe school health environment in accordance with Alabama Board of Nursing regulations and district policies.
Essential Responsibilities
• Provide basic nursing care to students and staff.
• Assist with assessment of minor illnesses and injuries and refer concerns as needed.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed and within LPN scope of practice.
• Support students with chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, allergies, and seizures under established care plans.
• Respond to health office needs and assist in medical emergencies until higher-level care arrives.
• Maintain accurate and confidential student health records.
• Assist with health screenings, documentation, and communicable disease prevention.
• Collaborate with RN staff, school personnel, and families to support student health needs.
• Maintain medical supplies, equipment, and medication inventory.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• Current unrestricted Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the Alabama Board of Nursing.
• Current CPR/BLS certification (required).
• Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program.
• Pediatric, school health, or clinical experience preferred.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Valid Alabama driver’s license and reliable transportation may be required for multiple school sites.
Schedule
Per diem, as-needed assignments based on school staffing needs, including absences, field trips, and special events. Schedule follows the school calendar and operating hours.
