This contract opportunity for the 2026/27 school year is ideal for a compassionate and skilled RN passionate about pediatric care and committed to fostering inclusivity for students with complex medical needs.

You’ll be working exclusively with an elementary student diagnosed with Smith-Lemli-Opitz Syndrome and multiple significant health conditions. Your expertise will play a vital role in the student’s safety and well-being throughout the school day, beginning with their bus ride to campus and continuing right through dismissal.

Qualifications:

  • Active Illinois RN license required
  • Professional experience as a nurse in a school or pediatric setting strongly preferred
  • Ventilator and tracheostomy care training and experience are essential
  • Confidence administering care to students dependent on a wheelchair and ventilator, as well as managing feeding tubes (NG) and complex medication regimens
  • Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in critical situations
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Core Duties:

  • Provide 1:1 nursing support during all school hours and rides to/from school (9am–4pm, approx. 35 hours/week)
  • Monitor and manage the student’s complex medical needs, including respiratory support, nutrition, and medication
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and family to support educational and health goals
  • Respond swiftly and appropriately to any medical emergencies or changes in baseline health
