Position Overview:
El Monte Union High School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered School Nurse (RN) to provide high-quality health services to students on a per diem (as-needed, day-to-day) basis. This means the nurse is not scheduled for regular full-time or part-time hours, but instead works as needed to cover absences, peak demand, or special circumstances. The ideal candidate will support student well-being, promote a safe and healthy school environment, and respond effectively to both routine and emergency health needs.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide direct nursing care to students, including first aid, illness assessment, and emergency response
• Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and school policies
• Monitor and manage student health plans, including those for chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and allergies
• Maintain accurate and confidential student health records in compliance with state and federal regulations
• Collaborate with school staff, parents, and healthcare providers to support student health and academic success
• Identify and respond to communicable diseases and implement infection control procedures
• Participate in health screenings and promote wellness education within the school community
• Ensure compliance with district policies, California state health regulations, and nursing standards
Qualifications:
• Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of California
• Current CPR and First Aid certification (BLS preferred)
• Previous experience in school nursing, pediatrics, or community health is highly desirable
• Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
• Ability to work independently and adapt to a dynamic school environment
Work Schedule:
This is a per diem position with flexible scheduling based on school needs. Hours may vary depending on staff coverage and student health demands.
