Pediatric School-Based Registered Nurse (RN) - Waukegan, Illinois

Waukegan, IL
Sunbelt Schools - RN Nurse Contract Today Apply

Step into an impactful role supporting students’ health and well-being as a contract Registered Nurse within a therapeutic school setting in Lake County. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the educational environment by managing day-to-day health needs and providing specialized care for students with chronic conditions.

Your typical week will consist of working 37.5 hours across five weekdays. You’ll serve as the regular health office nurse, though instead of students coming to you, you’ll respond directly to calls from various classrooms. This approach allows you to experience a dynamic school day while having a dedicated space in the health office for organizing medical records and supplies. You’ll also play a pivotal role in care management for students—such as those with diabetes—and may contribute valuable insights during IEP meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Valid RN license with credentials and certifications required for the state of Illinois
  • Experience in pediatric, school, or therapeutic settings preferred
  • Strong assessment, intervention, and communication skills
  • Adaptable to a fast-paced educational environment
  • Collaborative mindset for working with students, staff, and families
  • Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver routine and urgent nursing care within the school environment
  • Respond to student health needs across classrooms as called
  • Monitor and manage health concerns such as diabetes management
  • Maintain thorough health documentation and coordinate care as needed
  • Participate in Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings when requested
  • This contract position provides weekly pay along with highly competitive compensation, comprehensive insurance (medical, dental, vision, life), a matching 401k, and a flexible spending account.

Bring your expertise, empathy, and commitment to supporting students in a specialized educational environment. Take the next step in your nursing career and apply today to help shape a healthier school community.

Compensation for this position ranges from $28.00 to $45.00. Eligible candidates may also receive healthcare benefits, housing, and meals/incidentals. Full details of our healthcare benefits plan can be found here. This posting is open for 60 days after the posting date.
